Street Art & Culture Tour

Join us on a street art and culture themed walking tour through the hip neighbourhoods of Fitzroy and Collingwood. On this tour you will discover the stories behind some of Melbourne’s most iconic street art murals, visit community gardens and be told unique stories about the area.

What to expect

Discover the real Melbourne on this special alternative culture walking tour through Melbourne’s eclectic neighbourhoods of Fitzroy and Collingwood. This tour is jam packed full of incredible street art, local history, bizarre stories and local tips.

This tour begins with your guide sharing insights into local Aboriginal history from the area. We will discuss the colonisation of Melbourne and the associated impacts on local Aboriginal communities, and share the stories of those who fought for the rights of Aboriginal People.

As we progress down the backstreets and laneways our guests will witness some of Melbourne’s most iconic street art murals and discover the stories behind them. We will visit Melbourne’s tallest street art mural by the internationally renowned street artist Matt Adnate, share insights into the mysterious symbols painted on footpaths around our city and introduce guests to a variety of styles, techniques and materials used on our streets.

Throughout the tour guests will gain insights into the history, protests and developments that have shaped the area into the multicultural hotspot it is today. We will discuss how the neighbourhoods have morphed from slums into some of Melbourne’s most popular areas, and explain the associate issues connected to this for the local population.

Our tour will conclude at a cafe in an old school that has been transformed into a new local arts precinct. You will have the opportunity to eat, drink and ask your guide for more local recommendations. You can then explore the many shops, galleries and art spaces in the building, and your guide will also point you towards one of Melbourne’s newest rooftop bars!
